Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Houston, TX, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a strong background in semiconductor technology to support its Intellectual Property team. This opportunity is presented through a professional legal recruiting firm. The role focuses on patent drafting and prosecution, particularly within the semiconductor field, and involves direct engagement with inventors, engineers, and USPTO communications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical depth, initiative, and a collaborative mindset to assist legal teams in delivering high-quality client services.

Duties:

  • Draft comprehensive patent applications with a focus on scientific and technical precision

  • Prepare substantive responses to . and international patent office communications

  • Engage with inventors and technical teams to understand inventions and generate related reports

  • Serve as a liaison between clients and patent offices throughout the application lifecycle

  • Analyze and advise on technological aspects of inventions and related scientific topics

  • Conduct research and provide strategic insights on emerging technologies

  • Summarize and organize documentation for attorney use

  • Handle communications with internal stakeholders, clients, and external agencies

  • Prioritize multiple tasks efficiently under time constraints

  • Contribute to resolving complex IP-related technical challenges

  • Maintain professional interactions with personnel across all organizational levels

  • Offer guidance to support staff when necessary

  • Track industry trends and recommend relevant updates or tools

  • Complete miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution related to semiconductors

  • Demonstrated ability to assess, interpret, and report on technical research

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Familiarity with USPTO procedures and documentation standards

  • Independent judgment and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills

  • Proven ability to manage competing deadlines effectively

  • Proficiency in various productivity and IP software platforms

  • Understanding of professional and ethical obligations within IP practice

  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally for client and firm-related matters

  • Adaptability for a hybrid work structure, including at least three days onsite weekly

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or other directly relevant technical discipline

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration preferred
