Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities
The Head of Construction Defect Claims is responsible for leading a large team that handles all aspects of construction defect claims. The role involves ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of liability claims of the highest complexity and/or severity. The candidate will be expected to develop and enhance the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and acquire new skills. Monitoring the team's performance and identifying problematic trends are crucial tasks, along with escalating issues or recommending solutions to operational leadership. The role requires advocating for a culture focused on identifying process efficiencies to continuously improve work completion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and performance of the CD Claim teams.
- Monitoring team performance and analyzing trends to identify root cause problems.
- Escalating issues or recommending solutions to leadership.
- Advocating a culture committed to process efficiencies.
- Building an understanding of the customer experience to exceed stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identifying changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and developing training solutions to embed these practices.
- Identifying technological changes to support practice execution and collaborating with IT counterparts for design, build, and testing.
- Utilizing data and analytics for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth.
- Developing coverage acumen and ensuring proactive management of litigation.
Education and Experience Information
The position requires significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with substantial experience in Construction Defect claim management. The candidate should possess multi-jurisdictional expertise. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required, while an advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
Experience in managing a diverse group of claims teams located across multiple locations is essential. The candidate will directly manage and guide a team of managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims handling. Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on issues surrounding coverage, liability, and assessment of damages is expected. Strong communication skills are necessary for presenting to senior leadership. Leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports, are crucial. The candidate should possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and be able to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communication.
