Job Title: Senior Court Attorney JG - 26
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and analyze complex legal issues and questions.
- Supervise attorneys and support staff located in one or more courts throughout a county, judicial district, or department.
- Serve in a confidential capacity under supervision for judges or groups of judges in various courts, including Supreme Court, County Court, Surrogate's Court, the Court of Claims, Family Court, District Court, the Criminal Court and Civil Court of the City of New York, and City Courts with two or more full-time judges.
- Confer with attorneys and pro-se litigants to discuss cases and assist parties in reaching a settlement.
- Conduct legal research and provide advice to the judge on legal issues.
- Draft orders and legal opinions to be reviewed by the court.
- Assist the judge during bench and jury trials.
- Prepare jury charges and instructions; conference proposed jury charges with attorneys.
- Respond to inquiries and draft responses.
- For candidates with more than five years of experience, conduct inquests and/or arbitrate matters in Small Claims Court, contingent on attending a small claims arbitrators training course.
Education and Experience Information:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- Two (2) years of relevant legal experience, which can include up to 18 months of pre-admission experience.
Salary Information:
- Base Salary: $99,490
- Additional Location Pay: $4,920
