Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate with 4–6 years of experience to join its nationally recognized practice group. This role offers direct client engagement and leadership opportunities in data privacy compliance. The position involves advising clients across various industries-particularly health and finance-on legal and regulatory requirements, building privacy frameworks, and shaping practical legal strategies in a collaborative environment.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Advise clients on . state privacy laws, including CCPA, WA MHMD, and other similar statutes

  • Lead compliance assessments and develop comprehensive data privacy programs

  • Draft and implement key compliance documentation, including:

    • Privacy policies and procedures

    • Business-facing compliance guidance

    • Data Subject Rights (DSR) procedures

    • Incident response plans and tabletop exercises

    • Contract templates and negotiation playbooks

  • Counsel clients on adtech issues, cookies, data sales/sharing, and targeted advertising

  • Provide regulatory guidance in financial and healthcare/life sciences sectors, including:

    • GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, Reg P, Safeguards Rule

    • HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, state-specific health privacy laws

  • Collaborate closely with supervising partners and occasionally mentor junior attorneys and paralegals

  • Independently manage matters or large components of complex client engagements

Requirements:

  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience in data privacy counseling

  • In-depth knowledge and experience implementing . state privacy laws

  • Prior exposure to adtech regulatory frameworks (TCPA, CAN-SPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB) strongly preferred

  • Experience advising clients in healthcare and financial services strongly preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate legal advice in a business-focused manner

  • Demonstrated success managing privacy compliance projects from start to finish

  • Experience from a large law firm required; boutique firm experience may be considered

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional designations, such as:

    • CIPP-US

    • CIPT

    • CIPM

Certifications (Required):

  • Admission to practice law and in good standing in the jurisdiction of application

Skills:

  • Excellent drafting, research, and communication abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a client-centered, risk-based approach

  • Collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented environment

  • Skilled in managing both individual responsibilities and supervising portions of larger team projects
