Job Title: Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of high-complexity and high-severity liability claims.
- Continuously enhance team talent by creating growth opportunities and fostering skill development among direct reports.
- Monitor team performance to identify problematic trends, analyze root causes, and escalate issues or recommend solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocate for process efficiency improvements to enhance work completion.
- Foster an effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, delivering continuous coaching, recognizing employee achievements, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Promote claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholder expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to achieve high-quality outcomes and develop training solutions to embed these practices within the organization.
- Identify technological changes that support practice execution and collaborate with IT counterparts in designing, building, and testing these changes.
- Utilize data and analytics for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and ensure proactive team management in litigation.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with substantial experience in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is necessary.
- An advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams across multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on coverage, liability, and damage assessment issues is expected.
- Strong communication skills are required, with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including planning, organizing, delegating, and developing direct reports, are essential.
- Ability to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communications, clearly explain, challenge ideas effectively, and argue in favor of own point of view.
- Possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Embrace change, invite feedback related to performance, and deal constructively with criticism.
