Job Title: Legal Fellowship

Job Responsibilities:
- Serve clients with their legal needs, providing individual legal services and support.
- Assist with clinical supervision and staff high impact cases with nationwide implications.
- Engage in movement lawyering and community organizing.
- Participate in legislative and other policy advocacy efforts.
- Develop and carry out work proposals in accordance with fellowship terms and requirements.
- Work on poverty law issues such as public benefits access, housing access and affordability, consumer protection, workers’ rights, healthcare, immigrants’ rights, education access, civil rights enforcement, children’s mental health rights, juvenile legal system involvement, and criminalization of poverty.
- Collaborate with the **Members Only** (LAJC) to apply for public interest legal fellowship opportunities.

Education and Experience Information:
- Candidates must be rising third-year law students, third-year law students, or recent law school graduates.
- Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
- Demonstrated record of public service and willingness to apply for public interest legal fellowships.
- Mission-aligned experience (work, volunteer, or lived) partnering with and advocating in low-wealth communities and communities of color.
- Outstanding oral advocacy, research, writing, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to taking and passing the Virginia Bar Exam and fulfilling all licensure requirements as an attorney in Virginia.
- Spanish proficiency is highly preferred for applicants interested in working in Falls Church or within the Immigrant Advocacy Program or Worker Justice Program.

Salary Information:
- Salary and benefits depend on the terms of the fellowship.

Other Important Information:
- The position is open to candidates interested in working at one of LAJC’s three main offices in Virginia (Richmond, Falls Church, or Charlottesville).
- The fellowship depends on the candidate obtaining fellowship funding from a private funding entity in partnership with LAJC.
- The application process includes an interview, development of fellowship application materials, submission to public interest law fellowship funding entities, and commencement of the fellowship if successful.
- Areas of particular interest to LAJC include Civil Rights & Racial Justice, Housing & Consumer Justice, Worker Justice, Youth Justice, and Health Justice & Public Benefits.
- Applicants must be committed to working in an inclusive and diverse environment that empowers staff and clients.
- LAJC requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption.
