Job Title: 711 Clerkship - Paid
Job Responsibilities:
The 711 Clerkship is a comprehensive program designed for rising third-year law students who will work closely with an Assistant State’s Attorney within the criminal divisions of the Cook County Court System. The primary responsibilities of the 711 Clerk include:
- Conducting legal research and preparing memos on pending legal issues.
- Partnering with counsel regarding case management and procedural requirements.
- Assisting with courtroom proceedings, including preparation of daily court calls and breakdowns at the end of court sessions.
- Preparing motions, answers, and other necessary legal filings.
- Assisting in the preparation of discovery, including the review and organization of video, audio, and document evidence.
- Interviewing witnesses and law enforcement personnel.
- Assisting with motions and trials as needed.
- Notifying witnesses as part of court procedures.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be a rising 3L law student at an ABA-approved law school or qualify for a 711 license if part of an alternative law school program.
- Maintain good standing with the law school, evidenced by a GPA of or above, and not be on any form of academic probation.
- Must have or be able to obtain a 711 license prior to the start of the clerkship.
- Experience with Moot Court and/or Mock Trial is preferred.
Salary Information:
- The position is classified as Non-Union/Hourly, with a pay rate of $21 per hour.
- The role is full-time, requiring 32-40 hours of work per week.
Additional Information:
- This opportunity is exclusively available to rising 3L law students with an anticipated graduation date of May or December 2027.
- Applicants seeking school credit for the internship must verify with their schools if monetary compensation is permissible.
- The organization offers both paid and unpaid internship programs. Candidates not selected for the paid internship are encouraged to apply for the unpaid program.

Physical Requirements:
- The role involves sedentary work, which includes lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally carrying items such as docket files, ledgers, and small tools. While primarily a sitting job, some walking and standing may be necessary.
