Job Overview:

A distinguished law firm based in Dallas, TX, is seeking a Patent Agent with a robust background in semiconductor-related technologies. This role is an integral part of the Intellectual Property practice and involves managing complex patent prosecution matters. Ideal candidates will possess strong technical knowledge in electrical or material engineering (or closely related fields) and bring proven experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to semiconductor innovations.

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications incorporating scientific and technical disclosures specific to semiconductors

  • Prepare responses to USPTO and international office communications regarding technical subject matter

  • Engage with inventors and technical staff to understand invention details and provide reporting to legal teams

  • Serve as a liaison between inventors and patent offices to support prosecution processes

  • Evaluate and interpret complex scientific concepts and advise attorneys on relevant technical subject matter

  • Review and summarize invention disclosures and related documentation

  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and patent office personnel via meetings, calls, and emails

  • Prioritize and complete multiple assignments under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism

  • Analyze technical patent issues and contribute to solution strategies

  • Offer guidance to support staff on case-specific technical tasks

  • Stay current on developments in semiconductor and patent-related technologies

  • Support additional IP-related projects and responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in patent preparation and prosecution within the semiconductor field

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical material and convey it in clear, legally suitable formats

  • Skilled in interpreting and summarizing complex scientific findings

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment

  • Capacity to handle confidential material with discretion and professionalism

  • Adept in multitasking and managing time-sensitive projects efficiently

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or another technical discipline relevant to semiconductors

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred

Skills:

  • Strong technical writing and oral communication abilities

  • Familiarity with patent application formats and procedures in both . and foreign jurisdictions

  • High-level proficiency with legal research tools and productivity software

  • Well-developed interpersonal and client-interaction skills

  • Awareness of industry trends and patent law developments

  • Sound judgment and initiative in handling sensitive legal matters

  • Effective organization, project tracking, and documentation skills
