Job Title: Law Clerk 2025 - 2026

Job Responsibilities:
As a law clerk within the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., individuals will engage in a variety of legal tasks that provide hands-on experience and insight into the judicial process. Responsibilities vary by court division but generally include:

- Supreme Court: Law clerks will work closely with justices on complex cases involving intricate legal issues. They will perform legal research, prepare written memoranda on novel legal questions, and assist in the preparation of judicial opinions.

- Appellate Division: Clerks in this division conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions. They also handle emergent applications and assist with additional research projects as requested by judges.

- Superior Court (Trial Court): Law clerks gain practical experience by observing judicial proceedings, attending conferences with attorneys and judges, and receiving training in mediation. They mediate small claims cases and summarize information for judges.

- Tax Court: Clerks perform duties similar to those in the Appellate Division and trial courts, focusing on tax-related legal challenges. They conduct legal research, draft case management orders, manage the motion calendar, and assist with remote proceedings.

- Assignment Judge: Clerks learn all aspects of court administration and assist with emergent motions. They conduct research, prepare legal memos, manage the judge’s docket, and communicate with counsel and courthouse staff.

- Family Division: Clerks in this division handle legal research, assist with remote proceedings, communicate with litigants and attorneys, manage adjournment requests, and handle emergent applications. They deal with a wide range of family-related legal issues.

- Civil Division: Clerks prepare bench memoranda for civil motions, conduct legal research, draft legal orders, manage the motion calendar, and assist with case management functions. They are exposed to a broad range of legal issues within civil litigation.

- Criminal Division: Clerks conduct legal research for opinions and motions, assist in drafting jury instructions and legal opinions, manage the motion calendar, and perform case management functions. They assist with remote proceedings and communicate with attorneys and internal staff.

- General Equity (Chancery): Clerks conduct legal research, review case files, prepare bench memoranda, draft orders, and interact with counsel and litigants regarding case management. They assist in processing emergent temporary restraining order applications.

Education and Experience Information:
- Candidates must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their law clerk appointment.
- The clerkship program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those graduating within the last four years.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential.
- It is advantageous to have completed a course in mediation before starting the clerkship. Trial court clerks serving as mediators must complete Judiciary-sponsored mediation training or its equivalent.

Salary Information:
Salaries are based on a 52-week court term, with a one-week or two-week overlap paid separately. The following are the salaries for the 2024-2025 Court Term, with the 2025-2026 salaries to be determined based on funding availability:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900
