**Job Responsibilities:**
Law clerks in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. are tasked with a range of responsibilities depending on the division they are assigned to. General duties include:

- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on complex legal issues.
- Analyzing legal data and preparing legal documents such as motions and orders.
- Assisting judges in the preparation of legal opinions and proofreading published opinions.
- Observing judicial proceedings and attending conferences with attorneys and judges.
- Gaining practical experience in court administration and assisting with emergent motions.
- For trial courts, training in mediation and mediating small claims cases.
- For Tax Court, similar duties to those in Appellate and trial courts but without mediation responsibilities.

Specific responsibilities vary by court division:

- **Supreme Court:** Law clerks work on complex cases involving difficult issues of law, assisting justices with legal research and preparation of opinions.
- **Appellate Division:** Conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread opinions.
- **Superior Court (Various Divisions):** Law clerks observe judicial proceedings, assist in the administration of the court, and gain training in mediation.
- **Tax Court:** Perform duties similar to Appellate Division clerks, focusing on tax-related legal challenges.
- **Family Division:** Handle disputes involving families, conduct legal research, assist in drafting legal opinions, and manage emergent applications.
- **Civil Division:** Prepare bench memoranda, perform legal research, draft legal orders, and manage the motion calendar.
- **Criminal Division:** Conduct legal research, assist in drafting jury instructions and legal opinions, manage the motion calendar, and assist with remote proceedings.
- **General Equity (Chancery):** Conduct research on substantive and procedural legal matters, prepare bench memoranda, draft orders, and assist with emergent applications.

**Education and Experience Information:**
Applicants must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association prior to their appointment as a law clerk. The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those who have graduated within the last four years. Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential. It is beneficial to have completed a course in mediation prior to starting the clerkship. Selected candidates must provide an official, final law school transcript, which includes the date of graduation at the time of hire.

**Salary Information:**
Salaries for the 2024-2025 Court Term are as follows, with the 2025-2026 Court Term salaries to be determined based on funding availability:

- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900
