A law firm seeks a motivated and skilled Patent Agent to join its team in Redwood City, CA. This position offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and development, with potential for advancement into a senior patent agent role. The ideal candidate will have a background in the biological sciences and be registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office. This role provides the chance to work closely with partners and senior agents, develop client relationships, and contribute to a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Duties:

  • Assist in preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Collaborate with senior patent agents and partners to build and manage a diverse portfolio of patents.
  • Conduct patent searches, analyze patentability, and provide strategic recommendations for clients.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions, working under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Develop client relationships and increase client contact while building a professional network.
  • Take an active role in client meetings and communications, ensuring a high level of service.
  • For senior patent agents, work autonomously in managing patent portfolios and filing with the USPTO.
  • Maintain and manage client records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date filings.

Requirements:

  • A science degree in the biological sciences, preferably an advanced degree in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, or molecular biology.
  • Must be registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Strong academic credentials and a proven track record of success.
  • Previous experience in law firm or industry settings is preferred, but not required.
  • For senior roles, experience working independently and managing patent prosecution matters is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while developing autonomy over time.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (Advanced degree preferred).

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration (required).
