- Internships open to 2Ls and 3Ls
- Students must have completed 2 years of law school to appear in court under supervision

- Cover letter should explain why you are seeking an internship with NJOPD, practice area(s) of interest, geographic preference or limitations, and availability
- Applications are considered on a rolling basis and must be received between June 15th and July 31st (Fall), between October 15th and November 30th (Spring), and between December 15th and April 15th (Summer)
- All applicants must be interviewed, complete paperwork, and be screened and approved prior to being offered an internship

- Internships are volunteer positions
- No salary or stipend is provided
- However, interns receive valuable hands-on experience and training

The **Members Only** offers internship opportunities for law students throughout the year. These internships provide hands-on experience working with attorneys, investigators, and staff in providing legal representation to indigent individuals at both the trial and appellate levels. Interns gain real-world experience in areas such as investigations, client communication, research and writing, trial preparation and advocacy, and receive excellent training and mentorship opportunities.

About NJOPD
NJOPD is dedicated to providing first class legal representation to those who cannot afford it. Our attorneys defend individuals charged with criminal offenses, represent individuals whose children have been removed based on allegations of abuse and neglect, children who have been removed, individuals involuntarily committed to psychiatric facilities, and more. We also have specialized units that handle matters such as sex offense convictions and post-conviction relief.

Internship Responsibilities
During their internships, students will have the opportunity to work on ongoing and/or systemic projects related to the representation of NJOPD clients. This may include conducting legal research and analysis, drafting motions, briefs, and reports, assisting with trial preparation, participating in client and witness interviews, observing and appearing in courtroom proceedings, and attending training programs.
