Job Title: Trusts And Estates Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in New York City seeks a dedicated Trusts & Estates Associate with at least 2 years of specialized experience in estate planning and trust administration. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with seasoned practitioners handling high-value estates and multijurisdictional matters. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented legal professional capable of balancing independence with strong teamwork in a high-performance environment.

Duties:

  • Draft and analyze a wide range of estate planning instruments, including wills and complex trusts

  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) taxes

  • Handle advanced planning techniques such as GRATs, CRUTs, sales to IDGTs, and Dynasty Trusts

  • Prepare and review Federal Gift (709) and Estate (706) tax filings

  • Administer large estates, including probate filings, sub-trust funding, and valuation-related matters

  • Draft fiduciary appointment documents, releases, and settlement agreements

  • Counsel on charitable gifting structures and manage formation/oversight of philanthropic entities

  • Engage with high-net-worth clients, providing thoughtful guidance across estate and trust matters

  • Support client development initiatives and contribute to strategic business proposals

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of focused experience in estate planning and estate/trust administration

  • Familiarity with complex tax planning, asset valuation, and fiduciary reporting

  • Strong interpersonal skills for client interactions and intra-firm collaboration

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and drafting capabilities

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and sensitive matters with discretion

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited . law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to obtain admission)

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax laws

  • Proficient in trust and estate tax return preparation and compliance

  • High level of professional judgment and attention to confidentiality

  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing

  • Experience with multigenerational wealth transfer strategies and tax planning structures
