Job Overview:
A law firm with a national footprint is seeking a licensed attorney based in West Virginia to join its remote legal team. This full-time role focuses on managing consumer debt resolution matters, offering both limited-scope and full legal representation in debt-related litigation. The position is geared toward attorneys who are comfortable operating independently in a remote setting and who are experienced in negotiating resolutions with creditors, reviewing pleadings, and overseeing debt settlement processes. Most matters are resolved through negotiated settlements rather than extensive court proceedings.

Duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of debt resolution files involving West Virginia-based clients

  • Conduct client consultations regarding debt collection lawsuits and settlement options

  • Oversee and approve pro se answer drafts prepared by support staff

  • Provide limited-scope or full legal representation depending on the client’s engagement

  • Facilitate voluntary payment arrangements and settlements with creditors

  • Appear at hearings when necessary, with flexibility to delegate in-person appearances to local coverage counsel

  • Maintain compliance with state bar requirements and firm policies

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of West Virginia

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil litigation

  • Familiarity with consumer debt matters and/or collections preferred

  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and settlement discussions

  • Capable of working autonomously in a virtual environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active and good standing with the West Virginia State Bar

Skills:

  • Proficiency in civil litigation, particularly debt-related legal matters

  • Competence in reviewing and approving legal documents prepared by staff

  • Excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution abilities

  • Effective time management in handling multiple active files remotely

  • Comfortable using legal case management software and digital communication tools

Job Location:
