Job Title: Director - Strategic Financing Services - Applications and Strategic Planning
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Strategic Financing Services will be responsible for overseeing the application and strategic planning activities for Community Development Entities (CDEs), Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), Community Lenders, and Nonprofits, collectively referred to as Community Development Organizations. The Director will lead efforts to build internal and external capacity for these organizations, helping them clarify and execute their Mission, Vision, and Values (MVV). Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a team of Application Writers and Community Development Specialists.
- Coordinating and optimizing the New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) application process.
- Drafting, reviewing, and preparing NMTC Allocation Applications and supporting documents.
- Writing compelling business strategies and community outcomes to maximize application scoring.
- Collaborating with clients to identify NMTC pipeline opportunities that align with unique needs.
- Managing other grant and application writing opportunities to ensure quality and strategic alignment.
- Establishing relationships with CDFIs, CDEs, and community development stakeholders.
- Assisting clients with formalizing organizational frameworks through assessments.
- Supporting and preparing submissions for relevant certifications and NMTC transactions.
- Helping organizations develop sustainable financial plans and secure private investment commitments.
- Collaborating with internal teams to identify grant writing opportunities and enhance initiatives.
- Coordinating strategic planning initiatives with The Innovate Fund (TIF) and company staff.
- Other job-related functions as assigned, with an expected travel requirement of 20%.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for this role should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- A CPA license, MBA, JD, LLM, or Master’s Degree (other related certifications may be considered).
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in community development finance, tax credit finance, CDE/CDFI Lending, structured finance, or a related field.
- Knowledge of tax credit financing is required, with specific experience in NMTC strongly preferred.
- Experience working with borrowers, lenders, investors, and Community Development Organizations.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to solve complex issues.
- Expert knowledge of tax credit finance reporting, with specific experience with CDFI Fund’s AMIS reporting strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, recruiting, training, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent verbal, written (including technical writing), and presentation skills.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a strong motivation to make internal and external connections.
- Proficiency in Excel and a strong sense of urgency and shared mission.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $146,395 to $328,800. Individual salaries within this range are determined by factors including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
