Job Title: Sales & Use Tax Practice Leader - Remote Eligible
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the leader for sales and use tax, offering strategic direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members at various levels.
- Expand an established practice by nurturing existing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and enhancing the company's reputation in the marketplace.
- Lead business development efforts, including proposal development, networking, speaking engagements, and creating go-to-market strategies.
- Manage and develop a talented team by supporting career growth, providing regular coaching and feedback, and fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Direct and oversee sales and use tax consulting engagements, including nexus evaluations, taxability analyses, liability quantification, audit support, voluntary disclosures, process optimization, refund claims, and transaction advisory.
- Oversee all aspects of engagement execution, from initial scoping and budgeting to staffing, project management, and client communication.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, issuing internal alerts and client communications to keep stakeholders informed and agile.
- Contribute to thought leadership through authored content, webinars, presentations, and training sessions.
- Participate in regular professional development activities to stay at the forefront of state and local tax trends.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master of Taxation, MBA, JD, or LLM in Taxation is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in state and local sales and use tax, including experience as a Senior Manager, is required.
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, sales/use tax certification (CMI), JD, or LLM in Taxation is required.
- A deep understanding of multistate sales/use tax matters is essential.
- Experience in core areas of sales/use tax, including nexus and taxability analysis, VDAs, audit management, process improvement, exposure mitigation, transaction advisory, and recovery strategies.
- Proven skills in business development, identifying client needs, crafting solutions, and building long-term relationships.
- A track record of building and growing a successful practice or book of business.
- Strong leadership qualities with commitment to team development, mentorship, and creating a culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Experience in areas such as gross receipts/excise taxes, negotiated incentives, property tax, or unclaimed property is a bonus.
Salary Information:
- Compensation ranges from $180,000 to $255,000.
- Final compensation decisions depend on factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
