Job Title: Law Internship, Spring Session
Job Responsibilities:
- Undergraduate interns will engage in various investigative tasks related to the interdiction and prosecution of criminal law violations, enhancing their studies in Criminal Justice or related forensic or technical fields.
- Law interns will work on substantive areas of New Jersey criminal law and must possess excellent skills in legal research and writing.
- Interns will have opportunities to observe and collaborate with Detectives and Deputy Attorneys General, which includes attending court appearances before the Law Division (Criminal Part), Appellate Division, and potentially the New Jersey Supreme Court.
- Participation in the Brown Bag Lunch Program, where Detectives and Deputy Attorneys General provide insights into investigations, substantive law, and litigation techniques.
- Engage in a mock trial program designed for all interns.
Education and Experience Information:
- Open to undergraduate, graduate, and law students.
- Undergraduate interns should be pursuing studies in Criminal Justice or related forensic or technical fields.
- Law interns are expected to have strong legal research and writing skills.
- All candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
Salary Information:
- The internship is an unpaid position.
Additional Information:
- Interns are assigned to one of the Division’s Bureaus, supporting Units, or Offices, with supervision provided by a Detective or Deputy Attorney General.
- Applicants must submit a completed Internship Application, cover letter, resume, and the most recent official transcript. Law students are also required to submit a legal writing sample.
- Candidates should express their area of interest and geographical preferences, although specific assignments are not guaranteed.
- If offered a position, candidates must complete a Confidential Background Investigation Clearance Form.
