**Job Title:**
Staff Attorney, Family Law/Domestic & Gender Violence
**Job Responsibilities:**
The Staff Attorney, Family Law/Domestic & Gender Violence Program is tasked with providing a range of legal services to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. This includes:
- Representation, advice, counsel, and advocacy services in family court proceedings.
- Comprehensive legal advocacy in family and matrimonial litigation cases.
- Handling cases related to orders of protection, contested and uncontested divorces, custody, visitation, and child and spousal support.
- Assistance and representation in compensation claims stemming from victimization.
- Involvement in appellate family and immigration law cases.
- Conducting intake screenings and advising clients on family law, matrimonial law, and domestic violence-related immigration matters.
- Representation and consultation in both contested and uncontested family and matrimonial law matters.
- Litigation of divorce, custody, support, and order of protection cases.
- Participation in off-site, on-site, and virtual clinics and legal screenings.
- Engaging and conducting outreach with communities facing barriers to accessing services.
- Attendance at internal staff meetings and meetings with partner agencies and funders.
- Participation in external coalitions and task forces addressing domestic violence and sexual assault issues.
- Conducting educational seminars, trainings, and outreach to various stakeholders on domestic violence-related issues.
- Performing administrative duties such as updating case management systems, maintaining files, and assisting in grant reporting.
**Education & Experience:**
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Admission to the bar of the State of New York or eligibility for admission.
- A minimum of 2 years of post-law school experience working with victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
- At least 2 years of litigation experience in contested family and/or matrimonial law.
- Demonstrated legal knowledge and understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds during crises.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals of different races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Excellent legal writing, litigation, and advocacy skills in English, with preference for bilingual Spanish speakers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong motivation to manage a high caseload and meet deadlines.
- Computer proficiency to independently draft legal documents and track client information.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal writing, technical procedures, rules or regulations, statutes, and case law.
- Ability to write clear legal documentation with minimal errors, including legal memoranda, briefs, motions, contracts, and correspondence.

**Salary Information:**
The annual salary for this position ranges from $79,400 to $96,200, depending on years of experience. Benefits include 27 days of vacation, employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, employer contribution to a 401(k) plan, and paid parental leave.
