Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The **Members Only** offers law students the opportunity to serve as law clerks in their district offices, where they will work closely with attorneys, staff, and other members of the trial team. The primary responsibilities of a law clerk include:
- Conducting legal research
- Researching and writing motions and memoranda
- Engaging in case planning
- Performing investigations
- Coordinating with witnesses
- Preparing for and participating in trials, hearings, and/or sentencings

Law clerks are fully integrated into trial teams and assist in providing comprehensive advocacy for OPD clients. They work alongside attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and other support staff to ensure clients receive the best representation possible. The role involves significant research, writing, witness preparation, investigations, and trial preparation.

Education and Experience Information:
The position is open to current law students or recent law school graduates. The opportunity allows these individuals to gain hands-on experience in client-centered and team-based representation of clients at OPD. The program is designed to provide law students with invaluable practical experience, enhancing their legal education and preparing them for future careers in law.

Application Process:
Applications for the Fall 2025 Law Clerk position are accepted on a rolling basis, with final selections made by the district offices. Candidates are required to indicate their preferred offices during the application process, and placements are made in line with these preferences. Applications must be submitted through a centralized process, and candidates need to complete an application form and email the following materials: a resume, cover letter, list of four professional references, a writing sample not exceeding 15 pages, and an undergraduate transcript. The subject line of the application email should read "Application for Fall 2025 Law Clerk." Applications must be submitted no later than August 1, 2025.

This position requires in-person attendance, with law clerks expected to start by September 2, 2025, and commit to a minimum of 10 weeks. It is an unpaid volunteer position; however, OPD supports externs seeking academic credits and may sponsor grants or other funding applications.

Commitment Requirements:
Law clerks are expected to commit to working consistent days and hours throughout the duration of their clerkship. They are integral to supporting OPD’s mission of tenacious advocacy and zealous representation of clients.
