Job Description:
The **Members Only** in Dallas is seeking an experienced attorney to join our team as an Attorney III. In this role, you will be responsible for performing assignments involving litigation and legal research, as well as making tactical and legal decisions in connection with assigned cases. You will also have the opportunity to prosecute felony cases in assigned court, including case evaluation, preparation, and management.
Responsibilities:
• Evaluate criminal complaints and determine appropriate charges to be filed
• Prepare required documentation for indictments
• Conduct and interpret legal research on applicable laws and rules
• Interview witnesses or persons with knowledge of the cases
• Gather evidence and prepare for trials and/or hearings
• Draft, file, and respond to motions, briefs, and other legal documents
• Explain legal process to potential witnesses and prepare them for court testimony
• Keep clients or victims/families informed on the status of cases
• Gather, prepare, and present evidence, exhibits, and related material for trials or hearings
• Conduct jury selection, present opening statements, and conduct direct and cross-examinations of witnesses in jury/court trials
• Negotiate settlements or plea-bargains and obtain approval of agreements
• Prepare legal documents and ensure proper signatures are secured and filed when settlements or plea-bargains are reached
• Manage court dockets and case schedules to ensure deadlines are met and records and documentation are accurate and up-to-date
• Train or assist in training Attorneys I and II
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited law school
• One (1) year of experience practicing law
• Current license to practice law in the State of Texas
• Experience as a lead prosecutor for all levels of misdemeanor offenses, or experience providing legal services in conjunction with civil litigation, or appellate work on direct appeals
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
• Standard office and court room environment
