As the National Tax Technical Senior Manager for Accounting Methods & Inventory, you will play a crucial role in achieving firm tax practice goals, particularly in technical tax matters. You will collaborate with tax leaders, team members, and National Office functional teams to assist on client-specific tax matters, provide technical training, stay updated on tax legislation, and create internal and external tax-related communications. Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted tax technical resource for the firm by developing internal and external relationships and responding to inquiries from team members
- Consult with clients and tax team members on income and expense recognition, capitalization and cost recovery, inventory tax accounting, and accounting periods
- Prepare and review accounting method change requests, advise on implications of transactions or changes in entity structures, and evaluate accounting method planning opportunities for clients
- Drive resolution of complex tax technical matters with high levels of uncertainty and risk
- Collaborate with individuals at all levels within the firm to identify and develop opportunities and expand tools/resources for tax technical services
- Lead technical tax research and communicate findings orally and in writing
- Manage projects and provide coaching and development to support tax practice initiatives
- Work with the Learning & Development team to facilitate tax technical training on accounting methods
- Develop internal and external written tax communications related to technical tax matters and tax law developments
- Evaluate implications of new tax law changes and provide recommendations to tax leadership
- Conduct technical research related to tax positions and communicate findings
- Participate in internal and external activities to gain visibility and recognition within a technical specialization
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with an emphasis in accounting or a related field preferred; Advanced degree in Taxation highly desired
- Minimum of 7 years of tax professional experience, preferably in a public accounting or law firm
- CPA or Bar License required
- Well-rounded tax professional with diverse technical experience, specializing in accounting methods and inventory
- Ability to analyze complex business activities and evaluate tax consequences
- Experience coaching and managing a team, with a focus on technical development
- Advanced knowledge of technical taxation and associated structures, with the ability to research tax positions
- Familiarity with research software and comfortable working with the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, and authorities
- Self-directed professional with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous circumstances
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues and present to large or small groups
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel as needed, approximately 5%
