Job Title: Assistant United States Attorney (Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act)

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Unit of the Civil Division is responsible for representing the federal government and its agencies and employees in affirmative civil litigation. The selected AUSA will handle civil litigation and claims in support of the Department of Justice's Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative (SVI). Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating and prosecuting violations of the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act (SCRA), the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and other federal laws protecting servicemembers, military families, and veterans.
- Coordinating with criminal AUSAs and/or state prosecutors.
- Traveling to the District's military and veteran's facilities.
- Undertaking outreach efforts to servicemembers, military legal assistance officers, veterans, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.
- Conducting legal research, drafting legal memoranda, preparing and answering written discovery, taking and defending depositions or examinations, overseeing and coordinating investigations, representing the United States in judicial proceedings, and conducting public outreach and educational activities.
As the AUSA gains more training and experience, their responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must possess a . Degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 1 year of . legal or other relevant experience is required.
- United States citizenship is mandatory.

Salary Information:
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based on years of professional attorney experience. The salary range for El Paso, TX is $73,939 to $173,485, which includes % locality pay. For San Antonio, TX, the range is $75,025 to $176,034, including % locality pay.
Additional Information:
- The position requires occasional travel.
- No relocation expenses will be authorized.
- The position is a full-time, permanent appointment with a promotion potential up to grade 29.
- Security clearance at the Secret level is required.
- The position requires a drug test and is subject to a Special-Sensitive (SS)/High Risk trust determination process.
