Job Title: Tax Manager - Renewable Energy
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager within the Sustainability, Climate and Equity: Renewable Energy practice at the company, the primary responsibilities include advising clients on tax issues related to renewable energy projects. The role involves working with a team focused on renewable energy and sustainability, collaborating with colleagues across various departments such as Tax, Advisory, Consulting, and Audit and Assurance. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing renewable energy client engagements and targeting new clients.
- Delivering value by identifying opportunities and advising clients on eligibility requirements for tax credits such as IRC sections 48, 45, 45Q, and 45V.
- Preparing tax returns and providing advisory services related to renewable energy tax equity structures, including partnership flip, sale-leaseback, and pass-through lease.
- Maintaining and developing strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
- Demonstrating sound judgment and a quality-first mentality in evaluating eligibility for various tax credits.
- Collaborating with member firms for work streams like cost segregation studies and tax equity financial modeling.
- Identifying potential issues, proposing solutions, and implementing process improvements.
- Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of engagement deliverables such as presentation decks, credit calculations, and IRS audit responses.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax developments related to renewable energy and sustainability.
- Developing and mentoring team members and supporting various internal initiatives and special tax-related projects.
Education and Experience Information:
Required qualifications for this position include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, law, business administration, economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field, with an exception for candidates with a master’s degree and 2+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated analytical and research skills along with effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership skills with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to collaborate and develop internal and external working relationships proactively.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Ability to travel up to 25% based on the work and clients served.
- One of the following active accreditations is required:
- Licensed CPA in the state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA.
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed Attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Certifications such as Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
Preferred qualifications include:
- An advanced degree such as MST, MAcc, LLM, or JD.
- Experience with tax technical research (., CCH, Hein, Lexis, RIA).
- Experience with Federal or State and Local C&I.
- Experience with sustainability technologies or environmental sciences.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA or law firm.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role considers various factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business needs. The disclosed range is $93,660 to $213,200. It is noted that typically, individuals are not hired at or near the top of the range, with compensation decisions based on the specific facts and circumstances of each case. Additionally, candidates may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, with awards dependent on individual and organizational performance.
