Position Summary:
The Associate Attorney positions in the New York State Court System are responsible for all aspects of the attorney disciplinary process. This includes managing a significant caseload, conducting complex investigations, performing legal research, and litigating cases before Special Referees and the Appellate Division. The successful candidates will also be involved in extensive writing, including confidential memoranda, petitions, motions, and legal briefs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential manner.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and provide legal advocacy services in the Mental Hygiene Legal Services, attorney disciplinary committees, 18B panel administration, or other units within the Unified Court System
- Manage a significant caseload and conduct complex investigations
- Prepare and present complex cases before administrative tribunals and trial and appellate courts
- Oversee a departmental law guardian program
- Write confidential memoranda, petitions, motions, and legal briefs
- Handle disciplinary matters before the Appellate Division
Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Two years of service in the Senior Attorney title or equivalent legal experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential manner
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Experience in handling complex investigations and litigating cases before administrative tribunals and courts
