Tax Manager, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager in the Specialized Tax Services Partnerships, the candidate will be responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, specifically focusing on partnership-specific items such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The candidate will apply their knowledge and experience to understand potential partnership taxation issues and assist in the preparation of partnership-specific computations. The Tax Manager plays a key role in the leadership team of the STS Partnership Practice, actively participating in the development of the group. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in process improvement and team-building initiatives, maintain client relationships, and act as a source of guidance to other team members.
Key duties include:
- Maintaining and developing an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding partnership taxation.
- Identifying when research is needed, framing issues for research, and reporting analyses.
- Training associates and senior associates on research skills and framing tax issues for analysis.
- Assisting with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes.
- Applying tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions.
- Implementing applicable firm strategies and managing client expectations.
- Supervising associates and senior associates on all projects, reviewing their work, and providing feedback.
- Acting as a career advisor, managing workloads, and providing performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor's degree is required, with a major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
- A Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- Five or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience is required.
- Specialized partnership experience is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) is preferred.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
