**Job Responsibilities:**
The role of a law clerk within the **Members Only** encompasses a variety of responsibilities depending on the division to which they are assigned. Generally, law clerks will engage in legal research, prepare written memoranda, and assist judges in the preparation of opinions. Specific duties include:
- Conducting research and analysis on complex legal issues and data.
- Preparing legal memoranda and proofreading published opinions.
- Processing emergent motion applications.
- Observing judicial proceedings and attending conferences with attorneys and judges.
- Receiving training in mediation and mediating small claims cases (for certain divisions).
- Assisting with court administration and case management.
- Communicating with attorneys, self-represented litigants, and court staff.
- Assisting in drafting legal orders and opinions, managing motion calendars, and handling emergent applications.
- Participating in remote proceedings and case management functions.
**Education and Experience Information:**
Applicants for the law clerk position must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their appointment. The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those who have graduated within the last four years. Candidates are required to have excellent writing and analytical skills. While not mandatory, having completed a course in mediation prior to the start of the clerkship is advantageous. Selected candidates will need to provide an official, final law school transcript at the time of hire.
