Job Responsibilities
The Associate will work within the insurance coverage practice group at a law firm, focusing on first- and third-party insurance coverage cases. Primary responsibilities include analyzing insurance policies, drafting coverage opinions, and providing coverage advice to insurance company clients. The role involves leading federal and state litigation, including declaratory judgment actions and defending insurer clients in litigation initiated by policyholders. The Associate will draft and supervise the drafting of pleadings, motions, and mediation statements. Responsibilities also include corresponding with opposing counsel, clients, experts, and the court, conducting legal research, and managing discovery requests and document productions. The role requires taking and defending depositions, attending hearings and mediations, and retaining and managing experts. The Associate is expected to effectively delegate tasks and manage the work of junior associates and paralegals.
Education and Experience
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be admitted to practice or willing to gain admission to practice in Georgia. Strong first-party property coverage experience is essential, along with litigation experience.
Skills and Ability
The candidate should have exceptional legal writing and communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a robust work ethic with a sense of ownership over their work. The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, quickly identify and resolve problems, and a willingness to travel as needed are also required. The candidate is expected to perform tasks with minimal oversight and supervise junior associates and paralegals while independently managing workload and deadlines for multiple complex litigations simultaneously.
