Job Title: Trial Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
1. Handle litigation involving the corporation and/or its insured within established corporate guidelines and the applicable code of professional responsibility.
2. Analyze litigation files as they progress and evaluate cases, seeking settlements as necessary.
3. Conduct discovery processes, including written interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and depositions.
4. Engage in motion practice.
5. Draft necessary pleadings, papers, and briefs to advance litigation, supported by necessary research.
6. Handle litigated matters through trial, including mediations, settlement conferences, and arbitration.
7. Advocate for client positions in various forums, including state and federal courts, alternative dispute resolution, administrative tribunals, and regulatory hearings, in both formal and informal circumstances.
8. Stay current on state statutes and court decisions, analyzing their impact on the interpretation and enforceability of various policy provisions.
9. May develop areas of specialty practice such as special property, workers' compensation, environmental law, or commercial coverage.
Education and Experience Information:
1. Demonstrated experience in providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
2. Experience in preparing civil pleadings, motions, discovery, and deposing witnesses.
3. Proven litigation experience.
4. Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of professional responsibility for the jurisdiction in which the practice is conducted.
5. Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
6. Juris Doctor degree.
7. Admitted to the state bar in the state where located, or requirements for admission to the bar within one year of hire, or bar admission no later than 60 days of hire for individuals with diploma privilege or eligible for in-house counsel registration.
8. Admission to the California State Bar is strongly preferred.
Salary Information:
- Position Compensation Range: $109, - $185,
- Pay Rate Type: Salary
- Compensation may vary based on job level and geographic work location.
- Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.
Additional Information:
- The position is primarily field-based, with 80% of the time spent working in the field, directly interacting with customers, agents, and agency staff. Occasional travel to an office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training, and culture events is required.
- Travel requirements are up to 50%.
- Physical work primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Offers to selected candidates are contingent on the results of applicable background checks and signing a non-disclosure agreement for proprietary information, trade secrets, and inventions.
- The policy restricts consideration of applicants needing employment sponsorship (visa) to specialty occupations. Sponsorship will not be considered for this position.
