Law firm is seeking a driven and talented North Carolina-licensed attorney with a minimum of 2 years of experience in employment law, business law, and/or commercial litigation. The role involves a combination of litigation, counseling, contract negotiation and review, as well as practice before state and federal agencies. Candidates must be prepared and enthusiastic about building a successful practice and delivering exceptional client service. While a book of business is welcomed, it is not a requirement. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with attention to detail, are crucial. Candidates should thrive in a collaborative team environment where self-starters excel. Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Conduct individual and group presentations to potential clients
- Interview potential expert witnesses
- Meet with clients to discuss and review case strategies
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and perform legal research for complex matters in Superior and appellate courts
- Argue motions in Superior Court and present oral arguments in appellate courts
- Collaborate with clients and expert witnesses on-site to investigate impacts and formulate strategies
- Engage with opposing counsel and opposing party experts
- Communicate effectively via various channels with opposing counsel to negotiate numerous issues, including settlement and pre-mediation and pre-trial disclosures
- Prepare for and attend mediations with clients, opposing parties, and counsel, and negotiate settlements, including making concessions in lieu of compensation
- Prepare and review settlement documents
- Conduct depositions, including client and expert witness preparation, and prepare for the examination of adverse expert witnesses
- Propound and respond to written discovery
- Prepare for jury trials, including reviewing and analyzing all factual and legal issues relating to compensability, valuation, and constitutional matters
- Select witnesses and exhibits
- Prepare written outlines for witness examinations
- Meet with clients and retained expert witnesses to prepare them for direct and cross-examination
- Prepare motions in limine and supporting briefs
- Analyze potential juror pools and select juries
- Prepare for and attend pretrial conferences with judges and opposing counsel
- Conduct trials, including arguing and defending motions, selecting juries, defending witness examinations, and cross-examining adverse witnesses, including expert witnesses
- During trials, meet with expert witnesses and clients in the evenings and early mornings to finalize testimony elements
- Prepare for and deliver opening and closing arguments to juries
- Conduct post-trial interviews with jurors
Education and Experience
Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in employment law, business law, and/or commercial litigation. A North Carolina law license is required.
