Job Title: Guardian Ad Litem Office, 5th Circuit - Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Guardian ad Litem Attorney representing children in Florida's dependency court proceedings, focusing on timely achievement of permanency and normalcy for each child.
- Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including a child welfare professional and potentially a community volunteer or pro bono attorney.
- Provide thorough and accurate information to dependency judges regarding children under the court’s jurisdiction.
- Engage in contact with individuals in stressful situations while exercising discretion in handling confidential and sensitive issues before the court.
- Review case files to identify legal issues, conduct independent investigations, develop legal strategies, and file necessary pleadings and motions.
- Attend court proceedings such as hearings, depositions, and mediations, and meet with Guardian ad Litem staff, witnesses, collateral contacts, and the children represented.
- Advocate and negotiate on behalf of assigned children both inside and outside the courtroom.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Report directly to the Managing Attorney of the assigned Circuit for all activities related to the practice of law and work under the operational and administrative supervision of the Circuit Director.
Education and Experience Information:
- Possession of legal skills and knowledge sufficient to represent children, evidenced by admission to The Florida Bar.
- Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Florida Bar are required. Candidates pending admission may be considered if granted by the Executive Director or their designee.
- A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
- An exception to the required experience may be granted by the Executive Director or their designee.
Salary Information:
- Salary for the position is $56,.
- Total compensation, inclusive of benefits, is valued at a minimum of $81,, varying based on insurance and retirement elections.
