SSDLPG (Student Services and Disabilities Legal Practice Group) is seeking an Associate Attorney with 0-5 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate should possess strong research, writing, and people skills. The group specializes in providing legal services for students in pre-school through 12th grade and requires expertise in matters related to special education, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other disability and discrimination issues. The Associate Attorney will support senior associates, of counsel, and partners in the SSDLPG and will be responsible for providing daily advice and counsel to clients, as well as representing them in student-related litigation and interactions with government agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on student-related matters
- Represent clients in student-related litigation and interactions with OAH, CDE, and OCR
- Conduct legal research and analysis
- Draft legal documents and correspondence
- Collaborate with senior associates, of counsel, and partners in the SSDLPG
- Stay updated on developments in laws and regulations related to student services and disabilities
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the California State Bar
- 0-5 years of experience in education law or related field
- Strong research, writing, and people skills
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Americans with Disabilities Act
- Experience in representing clients in litigation and interactions with government agencies
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
