Job Title: Tax Manager, Core Tax Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services, is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives. This involves evaluating and selecting alternative actions to minimize tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. The manager acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues, applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues and recognizing and communicating potential risks and changes in tax policy. Additionally, the manager is involved in marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise and specialization and may be required to provide written tax advice to clients.
Key duties include:
- Ensuring clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
- Conducting top-level review of tax returns and resolving all tax issues with clients, involving specialists where appropriate.
- Communicating with clients and Assurance on issues identified in tax accrual reviews.
- Planning and reviewing the tax process, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process, timely billing, and collection of accounts receivable.
- Managing client relationships and expectations in accordance with the project.
- Providing timely advice to clients.
In terms of research, the manager identifies when research is needed, frames issues to be researched, and reports the analysis. They apply firm and professional standards for the preparation of written tax advice (WTA) and tax returns, involving firm specialists as needed.
For ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals, the manager applies firm policies and standards, explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions with clients, and communicates with Assurance counterparts to plan tax accrual reviews.
In tax consulting, the manager assists with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, considers consulting specialties for each client, develops work plans, serves as a technical resource, ensures compliance with firm policy, and provides exam support.
The manager develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation and may organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions.
In strategy development, they introduce and develop new ideas to improve client and firm positions, review studies of tax implications, and offer alternative courses of action to clients.
The manager also has supervisory responsibilities, including supervising associates and senior associates on projects, reviewing work, training staff on software tools, acting as a career advisor, managing workloads, and providing performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience required.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
