Senior Claims Examiner, D&O
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Claims Examiner in the department is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of claims, including Public D&O, Private Company D&O, Financial Lines, and Private Equity-related claims. The primary responsibilities include:
- Identifying and assessing coverage issues and drafting coverage position letters.
- Retaining coverage counsel when necessary and reviewing their opinion letters and analysis.
- Developing and implementing strategies for coverage issues that align with the overall case strategy.
- Formulating strategies to resolve liability and damage matters for specific cases.
- Maintaining communication with claim staff, business line leaders, underwriters, defense counsel, and brokers.
- Investigating claims and reviewing insureds' materials, pleadings, and other pertinent documents.
- Identifying and reviewing applicable statutes, rules, and case law for each jurisdiction.
- Reviewing litigation materials, including depositions and expert reports.
- Analyzing and directing risk transfer, additional insured issues, and contractual indemnity issues.
- Retaining and directing counsel in accordance with resolution strategies.
- Analyzing coverage, liability, and damages to assess and recommend reserves.
- Preparing and presenting reports to senior management, detailing issues influencing evaluation and recommending reserves.
- Traveling within the United States for mediations, trials, and other relevant proceedings.
- Negotiating the resolution of claims.
- Reviewing and evaluating defense counsel invoices for reasonableness and processing associated payments.
- Maintaining a diary of all claims, posting reserves in a timely manner, and responding promptly to inquiries from insureds, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Juris Doctorate degree is preferred; a Bachelor's degree is required.
- 5-7 years of experience managing professional liability claims processes at a carrier, broker, or law firm.
- Proper adjuster licensing in all applicable states is preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as evaluation, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to engage in strategic discussions actively.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Willingness and ability to travel 25% of the time.
Salary Information:
For individuals assigned or hired to work in the specified location(s), the base salary range is $150,000 to $175,000. The position is incentive-eligible. Total individual compensation, including base salary and short & long-term incentives, will consider various factors such as geographic location, role scope and responsibilities, qualifications, talent availability, specialization, and business needs. The pay range may be subject to future modifications.
