2026 State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern
Job Responsibilities:
As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern, you will be involved in a variety of tasks that ensure the financial health of organizations, both large and small. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tax consulting services specific to state and local taxes, including income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes.
- Preparing state and local income and franchise tax returns.
- Writing internal and external tax alerts on current tax developments and emerging planning techniques.
- Researching complex tax issues and providing conclusions through written technical memoranda or verbal communication.
- Developing meaningful interactions with staff at all levels and with clients.
- Deepening knowledge in state and local tax as well as other taxes, including federal tax.
- Participating in various training programs to enhance your knowledge of taxes.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern position must meet the following qualifications:
- Detail-oriented leader with problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting; or a master's degree in accounting or tax.
- Completed the first two entry-level accounting courses and currently enrolled in the first intermediate-level accounting course.
- Academic success with a minimum cumulative GPA of .
- Must be pursuing a LLM, JD, or CPA license.
This position is non-exempt and may require work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week. It may also necessitate some local, national, and occasional international travel.
Salary Information:
Compensation is commensurate with technical skills and experience and is provided in accordance with applicable state requirements. Specific compensation information for positions located in Colorado and Illinois is as follows:
- Colorado Hourly base range: $36 to $36
- Illinois Hourly base range: $36 to $36
