Job Title: Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney will work on the Domestic Violence Advocacy Project (DVAP) at the organization. The primary responsibilities include:
- Advise and represent clients in protective order and family law cases.
- Provide legal representation through the organization's Domestic Violence Clinic programs in Manchester and Nashua.
- Implement the organization's holistic, client-centered approach to civil legal aid, which includes language access, cultural competency, and trauma-informed lawyering practices.
- Engage with community organizations and present community education programs.
- Foster collaborative working relationships with other members of the DVAP team.
- Participate actively in the organization's Manchester, Claremont, or Berlin offices, with a mix of remote and on-site work.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates are required to have a law degree and a license to practice in New Hampshire or be eligible for admission on motion. The organization is open to considering 2025 law school graduates. Experience in handling domestic violence protective order and/or family law cases is a plus. Experience working alongside low-income clients and communities is also beneficial. Fluency in both English and another language widely spoken in New Hampshire is advantageous. Candidates must have the ability to travel extensively within New Hampshire and should possess current technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time position defined as hours per week and is considered exempt for federal wage/hour law purposes. The anticipated salary varies based on prior law-related work experience. For attorneys with no prior law practice experience, the salary is $68,000. For candidates with 5 years of prior law practice, the salary is $78,263, and for those with 10 years of prior law practice, the salary is $88,526. The position includes eligibility for the organization's employee benefits package, which encompasses medical/dental insurance, a retirement plan, and generous paid time off. An additional compensation of $1,500 per year is available for staff members who speak languages, in addition to English, that are widely spoken by the organization's clients.
