Job Title: Trial Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and respond to petitions, complaints, motions, and written discovery.
- Attend hearings and meetings with clients as requested.
- Prepare for and attend depositions.
- Assist with preparation for and participate in mediation and trial.
- Must be willing and able to bill.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- A valid California bar license in good standing is required.
- Must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school.
- A minimum of 10+ years of civil defense litigation experience is required, preferably in silicosis, mass tort, toxic tort, and/or insurance defense litigation.
- Trial experience is necessary, with 1st chair experience.
- Previous experience should include managing up to 30 cases simultaneously, taking and defending depositions, court appearances, motion and discovery drafting, and mediation and trial experience.
- Experience in mentoring junior associates is considered a significant plus.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including basic knowledge of computer operation, internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Familiarity with Microsoft products is preferred.
- Ability to type and operate office equipment.
- Self-motivated, self-starter, capable of working independently, with strong client communication skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of speaking clearly and persuasively, listening and getting clarification, and responding well to questions.
- Ability to work with little supervision, prioritize and anticipate work needs, and work well under periods of pressure and short deadlines.
- Adherence to ethical practices, maintaining client and firm information confidential at all times, and understanding and implementing general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.
Salary Information:
- Salary is $400,000 USD per year.
- Salary range depending on depth and years of experience is between $180,000 - $300,000.
- Quarterly bonuses based on billable hours.
- Annual performance reviews with the potential for a sizeable increase in salary.
