AVP, Property - Litigation Claims
Job Responsibilities
The AVP Property Litigation Specialist role within the company involves managing first-party Commercial Property litigation claims arising from lawsuits against the company. The lines of business include Commercial Excess and Surplus, Middle Market Property, and Property Programs. Specific duties include:
- Managing litigated claims in alignment with company litigation management guidelines
- Collaborating with the internal legal team on counsel selection, case evaluation, and litigation strategy
- Presenting claims and broader trends to Claim and Underwriting management
- Developing alternative resolution strategies for cases when appropriate
- Creating and updating litigation plans and legal expense budgets
- Participating as a Subject Matter Expert in developing training for internal and TPA staff
- Maintaining contact with TPA claim staff, business line leaders, underwriters, defense counsel, and program managers for Program claims
- Providing feedback to Property Claim management regarding litigation trends or patterns
- Investigating claims and reviewing insureds' materials, pleadings, and other relevant documents
- Identifying and reviewing applicable statutes, rules, and case law for each jurisdiction
- Reviewing litigation materials, including depositions and expert reports
- Traveling within the United States to attend mediations, trials, and proceedings relevant to claim resolution
- Negotiating claim resolutions
- Maintaining a diary of all claims, posting reserves promptly, and responding to inquiries from insured, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- JD is required
- A minimum of 5 years of claims litigation handling experience
- First-party Commercial Property litigation experience, preferably in key states such as Florida, Louisiana, and Texas
- Considerable knowledge of the insurance industry, particularly in commercial property claims, property policy construction, ISO Commercial Property forms, and property insurance coverage evaluation/interpretation
- Proper licensing in all applicable states
- Strong knowledge of legal concepts and processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Willingness and ability to travel 10-15%
- Reasonable proximity to a major airport
Salary Information
The base salary range for individuals assigned or hired to work in the specified location(s) is $107,900 - $175,000 per year. The position is incentive eligible. Total individual compensation, including base salary, short and long-term incentives, will consider various factors, including geographic location, scope and responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability, specialization, and business needs. The pay range may be modified in the future.
