A reputable law firm is seeking a Technology Specialist, Patent Agent with a background in Electrical Engineering to join its Intellectual Property team in Boston. This role focuses on patent prosecution, due diligence, opinion work, and general IP counseling. The position offers opportunities to work closely with senior attorneys on complex intellectual property matters.

Duties

  • Review technical disclosures and conduct client interviews to understand new inventions.
  • Perform literature and patent database searches to assess the patentability of inventions.
  • Draft assessments and reports on the potential for obtaining patent protection.
  • Prepare and write patent applications.
  • Respond to communications from the . Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Develop and present arguments for patentability to Patent Office Examiners.
  • Participate in IP due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to other team members as needed.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as necessary for various IP projects.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master’s level) in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Expertise in communications, RF technologies, signal processing (analog and digital), and analog/digital electronics.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Certifications

  • Relevant certifications in patent law or intellectual property are advantageous but not required.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on complex IP matters.
