Job Title: Legal Counsel

Job Responsibilities

As a Legal Counsel at the organization, you will be a crucial part of the US Legal Division Team, reporting to Senior Counsel. This role involves undertaking complex litigation and appellate advocacy with minimal oversight, focusing on First Amendment law and 42 . § 1983 civil rights actions. Your responsibilities will include:

- Conducting research and interviewing clients and witnesses to gather case information.
- Preparing and responding to written discovery, and conducting and defending depositions.
- Representing clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies, and interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
- Conferring with colleagues to establish and verify the basis for legal proceedings.
- Cooperating with the Development team through speaking engagements and other events.
- Reviewing in-house contracts and addressing legal issues.
- Interacting with media regarding cases and issues.
- Advising allied attorneys on legal issues within your areas of expertise.
- Networking and developing relationships with allied attorneys and potential allies.
- Training junior attorneys, performing quality control by reviewing and editing their drafts, and providing in-house workshops and one-on-one mentoring.
- Overseeing administrative and paralegal support functions.

Education and Experience Information

- Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Active license in at least one US state bar and must be capable of meeting admission requirements in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Ability to professionally handle confidential information.
- Skills to work, motivate, and initiate within a team environment.
- Capability to prioritize tasks and achieve deadline goals.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Westlaw.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, attention to detail, project management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Trial experience is preferred.
