Job Title: Law Reform Legal Intern - Fall 2025
Job Responsibilities:
The Law Reform Legal Intern position offers law school students an opportunity to engage in the organization’s impactful work on litigation and policy initiatives aimed at addressing systemic issues faced by the organization's clients. Interns will be assigned to one of the law reform units based on their preferences and the needs of the units, which include the Incarcerated Client Services Unit among others. The interns will participate in various aspects of law reform work, which may include:
- Conducting legal research and factual research.
- Interviewing clients.
- Participating in discovery and trial practice as opportunities arise.
- Contributing to legal papers, policy memos, or legislative testimony.
- Engaging in impact litigation, policy reform, coalition building, and public education strategies.
Interns are expected to rank their preferred units and will be matched accordingly. Descriptions of each law reform unit can be accessed on the organization's website.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must be 2L or 3L law students in good standing. They should demonstrate:
- An interest in working on issues affecting the rights of the organization's clients, specifically tailored to the unit(s) prioritized by the applicant.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- The ability to analyze complex legal and policy issues.
- Initiative to see projects through to completion.
- A commitment to racial and social justice.
Salary Information:
This is an unpaid intern position; however, interns who meet the eligibility criteria may receive a $1,000 stipend from the Howard Rossbach fund. This stipend is awarded through a lottery system to support 4-5 interns annually who demonstrate financial need and lack funding for their internship at the organization. To qualify for the stipend, interns must:
- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at any accredited institution.
- Complete the Howard Rossbach Internship Stipend Form at the time of submitting their internship application.
- Be accepted to participate in an internship program at the organization.
- Demonstrate financial need and lack funding for their internship.
- Submit a statement reflecting a strong interest in working at the organization upon graduation.
The stipend will be treated as taxable income.
