Job Title: Legal Intern

Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Intern will be engaged in a variety of tasks to support the attorneys at the organization. The responsibilities include:

- Assisting in legal research and writing specific to the organization's projects.
- Performing factual research to support ongoing cases and issues.
- Reviewing and indexing document productions which are vital for case preparations.
- Assisting in writing reports and engaging in advocacy efforts.
- Preparing correspondence with clients, community members, partners, and government and international agencies to facilitate communication and collaboration.
- Assisting with hearing, trial, and discovery preparation, which are crucial stages in the litigation process.
- Engaging with issues related to policing; prisoners’ rights; immigration; racial justice; Indigenous rights; environmental justice; gender justice and LGBTQIA+ rights; national security; corporate accountability; torture; detention; suppression of dissent; anti-militarism; international solidarity, including support for Palestinian rights; and legal violations under the Alien Tort Statute, the Torture Victim Protection Act, and universal jurisdiction.

Education and Experience Information:
The position is open to experienced second- or third-year law students or LLM students. The ideal candidate should have:

- Experience with one or more of the following areas: litigation in federal courts; international law (especially human rights, humanitarian law, and/or criminal law); FOIA litigation; engagement with . special procedure mechanisms; First Amendment law; immigration law; prisoners’ rights; Section 1983 police misconduct litigation; class action litigation; national security law; and working with communities to advocate for social change.
- Demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to social justice, organizing, and/or social movements is highly valued.

Salary Information:
Selected student interns are encouraged to seek external funding. However, if they are unable to secure such funding, they are eligible to receive pro-rated funding based on hours worked and the degree pursued. The compensation range is $2,200 to $7,500. Additionally, the organization works with student interns to secure academic credit for internships/externships from their schools when available.

This internship provides a unique opportunity for law students committed to social justice to gain hands-on experience in a variety of legal issues while supporting the organization's mission to fight for justice and liberation. The role is designed to be flexible, accommodating remote, in-person, or hybrid work arrangements, depending on the candidate's circumstances and discussions with the organization.
