Job Title: Fellowship Candidate for 2025-2027
Job Responsibilities:
Candidates for the fellowship are expected to develop and propose projects focusing on legal advocacy on behalf of disenfranchised individuals or groups, particularly in the area of poverty law. The project proposals should address issues not adequately represented in the legal system and aim to serve the unmet needs of underserved populations or remove barriers to opportunity, with a special interest in serving rural Ohioans. Successful fellowship candidates will collaborate with organization attorneys to refine their proposals and submit them to an external fellowship sponsor.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be 3L (third-year law students) or recent law graduates with a demonstrated interest in public interest law. Applicants should possess a strong academic record, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to handle a demanding workload. Eligibility to take the Ohio Bar Exam by July 2026 is required. Alternatively, candidates who can be admitted to practice law in Ohio prior to July 2026 or those who can submit a UBE (Uniform Bar Examination) transfer application to the Supreme Court of Ohio by January 15, 2026, may also be considered.
Salary Information:
While specific salary details are not provided in the text, the organization offers a comprehensive benefits package to successful candidates.
Additional Information:
Applicants are encouraged to apply early due to the competitive nature of fellowship programs. The application process involves submitting a cover letter outlining the area of interest and project idea, a resume, a writing sample, the most recent transcript (unofficial or official), and three references. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible and no later than June 1, 2025. The organization will assist successful applicants in developing their projects and navigating the fellowship process, with the final selection contingent on the sponsor's approval of the project proposal.
The organization is an Equal Opportunity Employer, valuing diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, and physical ability. They strive for an inclusive work environment and encourage applications from individuals traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. Accommodations for the interview/application process can be requested by contacting the recruitment coordinator.
