The . Department of the Interior's Office of the Solicitor is currently accepting applications for their Legal Internship Program. This program offers law students the opportunity to gain practical experience advising agencies on legal matters and participating in complex civil litigation before administrative tribunals and federal courts. The internship is open to students from various backgrounds and is particularly interested in Native American candidates.
The Legal Internship Program is located in the headquarters office in Washington, ., with additional opportunities to work in regional and field offices across the country. The program is open to students who are enrolled at least half-time in undergraduate or graduate programs, including law school. Students must be in good academic standing and provide official documentation from their school. First-year law students may apply after December 1 for internships the following summer.

Salary:
Intern positions are without compensation, but are eligible to participate in the Transit Subsidy Benefit Program.
Experience:
Students who are enrolled at least half-time in undergraduate or graduate programs, including law school, and are in good academic standing.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on environmental and administrative law issues, as well as issues involving Indian law
- Draft legal memoranda, briefs, and motions
- Assist with discovery in active federal cases
- Participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with other agency counsel and officials
- Attend hearings and meetings in the Washington, . area (additional opportunities)
Qualifications:
- Must be a student
- Undergraduate students who are enrolled at least half-time
- Public policy graduate students
- First-year (second semester), second- and third-year law students
- Law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs (. . programs) at least half-time
- Native American candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
