Job Title: Sr. Counsel, Intellectual Property
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the company's intellectual property (IP) portfolio, which includes patents, trademarks, and trade secrets related to business products and technologies, aligning with the business strategy.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to identify and assess competitive patent, trademark, and trade secret assets, evaluating their impact on desired business outcomes.
- Oversee the global prosecution of trademarks and patents.
- Identify and address global infringement issues, including managing litigation as necessary.
- Provide legal counsel on IP topics, including structuring complex licensing transactions, conducting business negotiations related to IP matters, trademark usage, and addressing open-source issues such as software.
- Prepare and maintain applicable IP contract forms and/or clauses.
- Create playbooks and training materials to enable fellow legal team members and members of the engineering and business teams to address common IP concerns.
- Manage outside counsel to assist with the above responsibilities, as needed.
- Develop and negotiate complex technical transactions, including development and supply agreements for custom electronics.
- Provide actionable legal support to the business as needed, such as negotiating commercial contracts, including launch service agreements.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school.
- A minimum of 7 years of post-JD experience.
- Experience working in-house or at a law firm with corporate clients.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience with varied and complex intellectual property matters.
- Excellent academic record from a top-tier law school.
- Significant knowledge of and experience with establishing and managing global intellectual property programs.
- Familiarity with technology and the ability to interact with highly technical engineers.
- Experience in structuring and leading the negotiation of intellectual property transactions across various technology areas, including physical goods and software licenses, as well as exposure to prosecuting and enforcing various IP rights.
- A team player who can proactively identify problems, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, and identify pragmatic and creative legal and business solutions.
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, juggling competing priorities in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- A quick and flexible learner who is intellectually curious and open-minded.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Must be admitted to the bar, in good standing, in at least one . State.
- The position is based in Hawthorne, CA and requires being onsite; remote work is not considered.
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Salary Information:
- Pay range: $235, - $290, per year.
- Actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
