Job Title: Tax Manager, Core Tax Services - Real Estate Focus
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business decisions, evaluating and selecting actions to minimize tax burdens and compliance costs, and identifying methods to comply with tax regulations. The manager acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues, applying their knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicating potential risks and changes in tax policy. Responsibilities also include marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise. They may be required to provide written tax advice to clients.
Key duties include:
- Ensuring compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing clients' tax and reporting burdens and ensuring client service teams comply with company policies and standards.
- Conducting top-level reviews of tax returns and resolving tax issues with clients.
- Planning and reviewing tax processes and procedures, including budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagement processes, and managing client relationships and expectations.
- Providing timely advice to clients.
- Identifying when research is needed, framing issues for research, and reporting analyses.
- Applying company policies and standards regarding tax accruals and communicating with assurance counterparts for planning tax accrual reviews.
- Assisting in developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by decreasing current and future taxes.
- Serving as a technical resource and ensuring client service teams comply with company policy regarding written tax advice.
- Developing an understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation and potentially organizing and conducting internal training sessions.
- Introducing and developing new or improved ideas to improve client, company, or personnel positions by reducing taxes or expenses.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
- Supervising associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviewing work prepared by associates and senior associates.
- Training associates and seniors in using current software tools.
- Acting as a career advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Scheduling and managing workloads of associates and senior associates.
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- A Master's degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience is required.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) is required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
