Job Title: Internship - CAFL Hyannis - Fall 2025

Job Responsibilities:
Interns at the Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) Hyannis Office of the organization will engage in several critical tasks aimed at representing children and parents in legal matters. Their responsibilities include:

- Assisting lawyers and working closely with social workers in cases where the Department of Children and Families (DCF) has removed children from their homes due to allegations of neglect or abuse.
- Providing support in child requiring assistance (CRA) cases, contested adoptions, guardianship of minor proceedings, and sua sponte custody proceedings in the Probate and Family Court.
- Engaging in significant client contact through interviews and home/placement visits.
- Conducting case investigations to aid in trial preparation.
- Advocating for service on behalf of clients.
- Negotiating with opposing counsel.
- Performing legal research and writing in preparation for motion arguments, custody hearings, and trials related to the termination of parental rights, as well as exploring novel legal issues before the Court.
- Reviewing pre-trial discovery and DCF case files.
- Attending and participating in education-related matters on behalf of clients, including suspension hearings and IEP meetings.
- Making appearances in Juvenile Court on behalf of Child Requiring Assistance clients, if certified.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all client information and work performed on behalf of clients.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- Demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy, community-oriented defense, and the protection of fundamental constitutional and human rights.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel to courts, clients, and investigation locations not easily accessible by public transportation.
- Access to a personal computer with home internet access sufficient for remote work.

This internship position is unpaid.
