A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent or Engineer for their Chicago location. The Patent Agent or Engineer will be responsible for patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management. They must hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics. Experience in the AI field, including machine learning and data analytics, is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating with clients, attorneys, and staff.

 

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics
  • Prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
  • Conduct patent analysis and opinions of counsel
  • Assist with inter partes reviews (IPRs)
  • Manage patent portfolios
  • Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and staff on patent matters
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics
  • 2+ years of patent drafting and prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
  • Experience with portfolio management
  • Admission to the USPTO (preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

 

Education:

Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics

 

Certifications:

Admission to the USPTO (preferred)

 

Skills:

  • Patent drafting and prosecution
  • Portfolio management
  • Experience in AI field (machine learning, data analytics)
  • Knowledge of blockchain, distributed ledgers, video codecs, and cloud platforms (a plus)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
