Job Title: Summer Internship

Job Responsibilities:
Interns in Washington, . will have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations of the United States Senate. Responsibilities include:

- Answering constituent phone calls
- Processing constituent correspondence
- Welcoming guests to the office
- Assisting with tours
- Attending hearings
- Conducting research
- Drafting memorandums

Interns in Illinois will gain familiarity with how elected officials assist constituents with federal agency issues. Responsibilities include:

- Fielding calls from constituents
- Researching and responding to constituent correspondence
- Attending briefings
- Drafting letters
- Working on other staff projects

Education and Experience Information:
- Interns must be at least 18 years old by their anticipated internship start date.
- While most interns are college students or recent graduates, anyone who is over 18 is eligible to apply.
- Applicants from anywhere can apply; however, preference is given to candidates with Illinois ties.

Additional Information:
- Internships are available during the summer, fall, and spring semesters.
- Part-time and full-time internships are available. Part-time interns must work a minimum of 16 hours per week, while full-time interns must work between 32 and 40 hours per week.
- Remote and hybrid internships are available for Illinois interns. DC interns are required to work in the office except under special circumstances.
- Interns must work with their academic institutions to determine if they are eligible to receive academic credit for their internship.
- International students can apply. However, to receive a scholarship, applicants must be eligible to receive pay from the federal government.

- Fall 2025: September 8 - December 12, 2025 (Application Deadline: June 20, 2025)
- Spring 2026: January 12 - May 15, 2026 (Application Deadline: September 26, 2025)
- Summer 2026: June 1 - August 28, 2026 (Application Deadline: February 27, 2026)
- Fall 2026: September 14 - December 18, 2026 (Application Deadline: June 26, 2026)

Applicants can expect responses within four to five weeks of application deadlines.
