Job Title: Practical Law Senior Specialist Legal Editor
Job Responsibilities:
As a Practical Law Senior Specialist Legal Editor, the primary responsibilities include developing commercial legal and compliance content with national and global significance for Practical Law’s online services. The role involves writing and editing legal resources such as standard form documents, practice guidance notes, and checklists, adhering to Practical Law's writing style. The editor will assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or other company products, including Global and AI initiatives. Establishing and maintaining relationships with external law firm contributors is crucial, as is writing and editing content for Practical Law’s magazine, Practical Law The Journal. Staying informed on developments and legal issues in commercial contracting and practice to ensure timely updates and new content development is a key duty. The role also requires developing relationships with private practice lawyers, in-house counsel, and legal professional groups to ensure the content is relevant and meets their needs. Additionally, the editor will support AI initiatives, including training AI for product use and validating model performance.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a JD from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one US state. A minimum of eight years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm or as in-house counsel is required, along with an understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and in-house counsel. Expertise is needed in various commercial transactional and regulatory matters, which may include general contract principles and boilerplate, government contracting, multi-state consumer regulatory issues and compliance, manufacturing and supply chain compliance, franchise, distribution, logistics, warehousing, reseller transactions, e-commerce transactions, and consulting, sales representative, and professional services arrangements. Strong project management skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks, and a passion for writing, including attention to detail and command of grammar and plain English, are essential. The role also demands the ability to collaborate with team members and flexibility in tasks beyond writing legal resources, such as supporting product development, conducting sales demonstrations, webinars, and responding to subscriber inquiries.
Salary Information:
The base compensation range for this role varies across locations. For eligible office locations such as New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Irvine, CA, McLean, VA, and Washington, DC, the base compensation range is between $134,680 and $250,120. For other eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the range is $116,900 to $217,100. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors, including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is part of a comprehensive Total Reward program, which includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
