Tax Manager - Business Tax Services - Tax Exempt
Position Summary:
- Seeking a strategic and creative federal tax professional with 5+ years of experience in federal taxation, specifically with tax-exempt organizations.
- The role will primarily involve working with non-profit clients in industries such as health care, private foundations, public charities, and higher education.
- Responsibilities will include providing tax compliance and consulting services, managing engagement teams, and working with a diverse group of specialists.
- This position offers a hybrid work model, with the expectation of in-person work 2-3 days per week.
- The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field, as well as an active accreditation such as a CPA, attorney, enrolled agent, or certifications such as CFA or CFP.
- Travel up to 25% may be required.
- The salary range for this role is $84,980 to $193,440, with potential eligibility for an annual incentive program.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop strong client relationships while providing federal tax compliance and consulting services.
- Advise clients on various tax issues, including compliance, business restructuring, exemption strategies, and philanthropic and charitable giving planning.
- Oversee federal tax compliance and consulting projects for a variety of entities and their affiliates.
- Manage engagement workflow, team resources, and billing.
- Provide technical training, leadership, and career guidance for the engagement team.
The Team:
- The non-profit practice at Deloitte consists of dedicated professionals with experience serving non-profit organizations and sophisticated donors.
- The practice includes professionals specializing in multi-state tax compliance, international tax compliance and consulting, and transfer tax planning.
- The team also works closely with Consulting, Audit & Assurance, and Advisory colleagues on client planning projects.
- Deloitte's Global Center for Excellence in Philanthropy (GCEP) is a cross-functional team of tax, audit, and consulting professionals that serves innovative individuals, companies, and non-profits working to drive societal change.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Ability to work within a hybrid work model, with in-person work required 2-3 days per week.
- 5+ years of experience in federal taxation, with a focus on tax-exempt organizations such as 501(c)(3)s and 501(c)(4)s in industries such as health care, private foundations, and public charities.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field.
- Active accreditation such as a CPA, attorney, enrolled agent, or certifications such as CFA or CFP.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Previous experience at a Big 4 or large CPA firm.
- Strong understanding and experience with federal tax compliance, analysis, and research.
- Knowledge of mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring specific to tax-exempt organizations.
- Excellent research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Strong management and analytical skills.
